Software Licensed by the Science Library: Access and Download
Download OriginPro software
Access to OriginPro software is limited to current students, faculty, and staff at Stanford.
OriginPro is available on the cluster computers located in libraries, dorms, and the academic virtual desktop.
We have a campus-wide site license to Origin software. OriginPro is compatible with Windows (see technical specifications below). OriginPro will work on a a Mac using virtualization software (the science library does not provide support for setting up virtualization software). OriginPro will not work on Linux. You must create an account on OriginLab's website in order to download the software.
Note: OriginPro is renewed in the Spring. If you have not logged in for a while and are receiving a license error, skip to Step 3. If this does not solve the issue, contact Science Library with details about your error.
Step 1: Create an OriginLab account
Register to create an account and then logout. Only email addresses that end in @stanford.edu or @slac.stanford.edu will be approved. You will receive an email message asking you to confirm your new account. Once you have completed this step, do not use the registration link for steps 2&3.
Tip: You must register using the ^above link^ which is associated with the Stanford site license. Using the "regular" registration page on OriginLab's website will not let you download the software or get license keys associated with our site license.
Step 2: Download and install the software
With your new account setup, Login to download the latest OriginPro installation files.
Tip: This is not the same link as registration. You must use the individual links in each step.
You must be in administrator mode to install the software. If you are not prompted to login as an administrator, after downloading the software drag the icon to your desktop and then right click. Choose run as administrator.
Step 3: Request a license key
Login and go to the Product Key Request page to request a new license key. After being reviewed and approved by the Science Library, a license key will be emailed to you from OriginLab.
After installing OriginPro, activate it by going to Help in the menu at the top of the page and selecting About Origin. Then click on the License button and enter the Product Key. You do not have to be connected to the network to use OriginPro after it has been installed.
Note: the license key you receive can only be used one time. Please email Science Library if you are requesting a second license key for a second computer. Please ask the Science Library to help you transfer the registered license key to a new computer.
