Food policy
- AGRICOLAAGRICOLA serves as the catalog and index to the collections of the National Agricultural Library. The records describe publications and resources encompassing all aspects of agriculture and allied disciplines, including animal and veterinary sciences, entomology, plant sciences, forestry, aquaculture and fisheries, farming and farming systems, agricultural economics, extension and education, food and human nutrition, and earth and environmental sciences. AGRICOLA is organized into two data sets. The NAL Public Access Catalog contains citations to books, audiovisuals, serials, and other materials. The Article Citation Database contains citations, many with abstracts, to journal articles, book chapters, reports, and reprints.
- CAB AbstractsCAB Abstracts indexes journal articles in the applied life sciences. It covers the fields of agriculture, forestry, animal and veterinary sciences, human health and communicable diseases, human nutrition, food science, animal health and welfare, microbiology and parasitology, leisure and tourism, plant science and crop science, and the management and conservation of natural resources. The database indexes literature published from 1910 to the present. Over 9,000 serials representing 125 countries are indexed in full or in part.
- The Zoological record : being records of zoological literatureIndexes the world's zoological and animal science literature, covering all research from biochemistry to veterinary medicine. The database provides a collection of references from over 4,500 international serial publications, plus books, meetings, reviews and other no- serial literature from over 100 countries. It is the oldest continuing database of animal biology, indexing literature published from 1864 to the present. Zoological Record has long been recognized as the "unofficial register" for taxonomy and systematics, but other topics in animal biology are also covered.
- FAOSTAT statistical databaseContains over 1 million time-series records covering international statistics in: production, trade, food-balance sheets, food aid shipments, fertilizer and pesticides, land use and irrigation, forest and fishery products, agricultural machinery, and population among others.
- House Committee on AgricultureThe U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Agriculture’s website provides access to press releases, hearings, and legislation related to agriculture, including publications from the Subcommittee on Nutrition and Horticulture.
- Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition & ForestryThe U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition & Forestry’s website provides access to legislation, hearings and news items related to agriculture, including information from the Subcommittee on Hunger, Nutrition and Family Farms, which is responsible for local and healthy food initiatives and hunger prevention and school and child nutrition programs.
- Institute for Agriculture & Trade PolicyThe mission of the IATP is to work "locally and globally at the intersection of policy and practice to ensure fair and sustainable food, farm and trade systems. You can find articles, reports, and special areas of focus on their website.
- Farm FoundationThe Farm Foundation is a nonprofit organization that addresses policy issues in a number of agricultural areas, including local food systems. The website provides access to the Issue Report, a publication addressing the challenges of agriculture in rural America, as well as information from current projects looking at sustainable agriculture, food economics, and agricultural research.
- Farmers' Legal Action Group (FLAG)The Farmers’ Legal Action Group is a “nonprofit law center dedicated to providing legal services and support to family farmers and their communities in order to help keep family farmers on the land.” Their website provides legal information about organic farming, disaster assistance, and agricultural contracts, as well as links to numerous publications on a variety of topics, including conservation programs and family farming.
- National Sustainable Agriculture CoalitionThe National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition is an advocacy organization that seeks federal policy reform to “advance the sustainability of agriculture, food systems, natural resources, and rural communities.” In particular, their website provides information on “Marketing, Food Systems & Rural Development,” including local and regional food systems, organic production, farm-to-school programming, and food security issues.
