Although the vast majority of journal publishers do not require authors to opt out of Stanford's Open Access Policy as a condition of publication, Stanford Libraries' Office of Scholarly Communications can waive the application of the policy to specific articles upon request and provide a formal letter documenting the waiver for a journal publisher. Note that if you elect to waive application of the Open Access Policy, your rights to distribute and reuse your article will be limited by the publication agreement you make with the relevant journal.
