Voting and Elections Guide - Get Registered and Vote!: Check your Registration Status

This Voter Information Guide contains non-partisan resources to help you get registered to vote and get educated about the issues on your ballot.

Registered in California?

The California Secretary of State's website allows California voters to check if they are registered, change their language preference, see their polling location, and more. Visit https://voterstatus.sos.ca.gov/ and use either (1) your California driver's license or ID card number or (2) the last 4 digits of your social security number to confirm your identity.  Contact your county election office or the Secretary of State if you do not have those identification items and want to confirm your registration.

Another option is to call the California Voter Hotlines, available in 10 languages and TTY/TDD for individuals with communication impairments:

  • (800) 345-VOTE (8683) - English
  • (800) 232-VOTA (8682) - español / Spanish
  • (800) 339-2857 - 中文 / Chinese
  • (888) 345-2692 - हिन्दी / Hindi
  • (800) 339-2865 - 日本語 / Japanese
  • (888) 345-4917 - ខ្មែរ / Khmer
  • (866) 575-1558 - 한국어 / Korean
  • (800) 339-2957 - Tagalog
  • (855) 345-3933 - ภาษาไทย / Thai
  • (800) 339-8163 - Việt ngữ / Vietnamese
  • 711 - TTY/TDD

Registered in another state?

If you are registered outside California, you may still be able to check your registration status online. Resources are available through vote.govVote 411 (affiliated with the League of Women Voters), Can I Vote (provided through the National Association of Secretaries of State), BallotReady.org, and ALL IN to Vote (part of the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge). Below are direct links to check registration status for select states and territories:

This list was created by selecting all states or territories within the Pacific time zone, that border California or the Pacific Ocean, and that constitute the 10 largest voting populations (using Kaiser Family Foundation data from November 2022). Complete state links (including the District of Columbia) are available through Can I Vote, and territories are available above and here: American Samoa (information only; online check not available); Puerto Rico (English version); Puerto Rico (Spanish version); and U.S. Virgin Islands. Additional information on U.S. territories is available through the federal Department of the Interior.
