REWIND: About

REWIND

The Taube Center for Jewish Studies and Stanford University Libraries are thrilled to announce the second installment of its retrospective Jewish film series, REWIND.

In 2017, Stanford University Libraries acquired a portion of the archive of Israeli filmmaker Amos Gitai. Inspired by the forty-year anniversary of Gitai’s landmark documentary House (1980), we have decided to explore the theme of בית, of House/Home in international Jewish film.

Over the course of the year, we will see how Jewish filmmakers from across the world navigated ideas of the home, and how the physical space of a house connects to the broader concepts of immigration, diaspora, lineage, and nation building.

As in 2020-2021, most of this year's programming will be grouped into thematic or biographical double features. There will also be sessions, however, where only a single film will be highlighted. Such is the case for our first program: A conversation with Amos Gitai about his film, Plus Tard tu comprendras (One Day You’ll Understand) (2008). Join the conversation with Gitai on Zoom and you'll have the opportunity to meet him in person when he comes to Stanford as the Taube Center for Jewish Studies' visiting scholar during the Spring quarter.

This page will be updated throughout the year to include event registration links, recordings of past public programs, and programming for the Winter and Spring quarters.
