What does it mean to be young, creative, and, well, alienated in New York? For our second double feature, we turn to another two films made 18 years apart, Smithereens (1982), Susan Seidelman's punk rock debut, and Tiny Furniture (2010), Lena Dunham's opening statement. Spatially, the two films couldn't be closer -- but the worlds the respective protagonists navigate couldn't seem farther apart.
On November 12th, New Yorker staff writer Rachel Syme will lead a discussion about the two films over Zoom. A recording of the event can be accessed here.
